(last updated: 4-8-99) This is work in progress!!! and by the way, I stole the above gifs from another site, I hope he doesn't mind...
This site is sorta gonna be a smear of whatever I stick up on it atm, so don't expect anything wonderful :PMy interest are mainly Star Wars, PC computer games (especially StarCraft, C&C, and C&C RA), Model rockets (though I'm not doing them as much now...) and RPG's, i just wish there was an RPG group where I live! sigh, MUDs just don't cut it, though they're nice... MUXs (which I just got into throguh ChaoticMUX) are sorta cool :)
Star Wars is one of my favorite movie/serieses (:p), I like technology and Sci-Fi and so Star Wars is right up my alley... luckly, they came out with plenty of Star Wars computer games (I have X-Wing, TIE-Fighter, Rebel Assault 2, Dark forces, and the demos for Jedi Knight, JK Mysteries of the Sith, Rogue Squadron, and Yoda Stories<- though the last kinda sucks...) We seriuosly need a computer games store where I live, it's one of the drawbacks of living in a small town, 2 hours from the nearist city... I live in Northern California. Anyway, a cool SW thing I found about a month ago at one of the SW fansites is a short movie made by an independant director called TROOPS. It is a spoof on Star Wars and Cops, sent on Tatooine with Stormtroopers playing the cops. A rather large group of files (roughly 81.5 megs!), otherwise I'd post it here... luckily, some of the availible download sites support resumable downloading (another cool thing, GetRight) so you can resume if you get disconnected. Ooops, forgot to post the site: theforce.net, then go to TROOPS in the sidebar, lots of info on the movie, its producer, and some screenshots of the making of it, too. Some other cool fan sites: Echo Station, JediNet.com, starwarz.com<= the .avi's I have above are availible from this site, somewhere, plus quite a few others.
StarCraft. Well, a really cool, 2D (sorta jelouse of Total Annihalation here..) RTS, or real time stategy, game, set in the far future, with 3 races battling for dominance (we've heard that before haven't we!) The cool thing about this game is that the three races are TOTALLY different... the Terrans have weaker, multi-purpose infantry and mechs, with starfighters to back them up; the Zerg are a nasty totally biological race ("buildings" are organisms...) that can slowly regenerate it's HP's. Zerg is mostly speed, though with recent patches they have toned it down...:( Protoss are a very technologicaly superior alien race that use shields on all their units; shields regenerate, but you can't repair the units; however, Protoss have *very* tough units- basic infantry has 80hp/80shields versus terran 40 hps and zerg 35hps... the Protoss units are very expensive, tho.
BroodWars. Weeelll, I just got it about 2 weeks ago, and it's cool as hell!!!! I order you to order it (uhh.. pun intended, I guess..) Unfortunetly, it requires StarCraft to play (guess you'll have to get that to, huh :) but the new units are awesome, and so are the new missions, plus three new tilesets Sand (they stole the Sarlacc from Star Wars for a doodad for this tileset... I guess that's ok, because once the SC-SW TC comes out we can _use_ the Sarlacc!!!) , Snow, and Twilight (Dark Templar homeworld), 7 new units (Protoss get a unit that can combine to get a third unit...) plus some new technologys and heros make for an awsome new Expansion Pack. I also recommend that you get StarDraft from Camelot Systems if you feel like messing with unit stats/weapons etc... StarCraft.org has a great section on making customs, so I won't go into that
If you want more info on StarCraft, look up StarCraft.org, or check out the News Groups at alt.games.starcraft and alt.binaries.games.starcraft I suppose Blizzard (maker of SC) has a good section on StarCraft too, but I don't check it out much except for the Maps of the Week. What I really can't wait for is for the Total Conversion of SC-Star Wars comes out, being made here. And if the site's down, try back a little later, they seem to be either really busy or have a picky server...
Thief: The Dark Project was the other game I got recently, it's pretty damn cool too- it's an action/adventure game, labeled by its makers, Eidos Interactive, as a "first person sneaker" (hey, you're a thief-you *want* to stick to the shadows.) anyway, I've played it alot, but am still only on the second level (haunted mines- those zombies are giving me the creeps... *shiver*). The range of actions and the amazing use of sounds is very cool- I like being able to tell where guys are coming from just by their footsteps.. this is a very graphics-intensive game, however- I'm running it on a AMD-K6 300 mhz *without* a graphics/3D acclerator card (oh yeah, and only 32 mb of ram...), and, while it does look good, loading times are very long, and it starts out sorta jerky...
